HUMAN FLOURISHING GOALS
Energy Corps is driven by a simple measure:
How do our efforts help people flourish?
We rely on a human flourishing framework to assess the potential impacts of expanded energy access. We assess:
Economic Growth and Jobs
Because reliable energy is the foundation of every modern economy. It powers small businesses, drives local enterprise, and creates the jobs that lift families out of poverty. Without growth and work, other gains can’t be sustained.
Housing for Security and Climate Adaptation
Safe housing shields families from storms, heat, and displacement. Energy brings light, cooling, and protection, while also enabling homes to adapt to a changing climate. Housing is security, dignity, and resilience in one.
Clean Water and Sanitation
Energy pumps, purifies, and distributes water. Without it, communities face disease, lost time, and limited opportunity. Clean water is the first line of health, and the backbone of agriculture, hygiene, and stability.
Food Security, Nutrition and Agriculture
From irrigation to cold storage to food processing, energy underwrites the entire food system. It makes nutrition reliable, reduces hunger, and strengthens local markets—all essential for healthy, productive lives.
Quality Education and Lifelong Learning
Light in the evening extends study hours. Connectivity opens worlds. Schools with power attract teachers, keep students safe, and prepare the next generation to flourish. Education is both a right and a multiplier of every other goal.
Human Health and Well Being
Clinics need light for surgery, refrigeration for vaccines, power for clean water and modern care. Without energy, health systems fail. With it, people thrive, life expectancy rises, and families have a chance to plan for tomorrow.
Environmental Resilience
Communities on the edge of climate and ecological disruption need resilience: the ability to withstand shocks, adapt, and rebuild. Energy makes resilience possible—from disaster response to sustainable livelihoods.
Our Human Flourishing Goals are inspired by The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, that were adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and enhance peace and prosperity.
The Human Flourishing Goals help ensure our efforts to stem energy poverty go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth.
