Focus & Impact
Solve severe energy poverty. Less than 1% of the village has access to reliable, affordable electricity. By funding personnel, infrastructure, and operational support, the project helps Nyamugari’s neediest citizens as it supports long-term human development.
Economic development. The project’s energy system will be a boon to developing economic interests, unlocking transformative productivity gains in agricultural, business, irrigation and microenterprise development.
Positive multiplier effects. One solar-powered hub can simultaneously support agricultural value chains, job creation, improved education (evening study), and health service delivery (e.g., cold chain for vaccines).
Project Funded
This pilot project will deploy a stand-alone solar energy hub in Nyamugari, Burundi, to power local agricultural processing, youth- and women-led enterprises, and essential services. The project will deliver solar-powered equipment, vocational training, cooperative strengthening, and financial literacy services to foster inclusive economic development throughout the community.
VOICES FROM THE FIELD
Energy Corps + GWI: Why It Matters
This new solar hub will help Nyamugari’s prosper by enabling maize milling, cassava pressing, solar dryers for fruits and vegetables, oil pressing units (for sunflower, groundnuts, etc.), and much more. The project illustrates how every community is unique, and how abundant energy helps communities prosper in unique ways.
