Focus & Impact

Efficient, effective growth. ERI brings deep expertise in understanding the interplay of factors that drive sustained socioeconomic growth. Their first Energy Corps–funded research report, Energy as a Driver of Sustained Growth, examines how energy systems enable long-term economic transformation across countries. The insights from this work are already helping inform the design and implementation of current and future Energy Corps projects.

ROI for funders and partners. By identifying how energy scale, policy, and market conditions combine to drive durable economic growth, Energy Corps can better demonstrate optimized return on investment—maximizing impact for partners in the field while providing confidence to funders across industry and philanthropy.

Project Funded

How, and why, does an economy grow? Energy is essential—but the research shows that energy at scale, combined with institutional alignment and market conditions, is what enables sustained growth.

This ERI-led study examines the “energy-growth nexus” through analysis of countries including Viet Nam, Ethiopia, Laos, and Guyana. The findings highlight a consistent pattern: sustained economic growth is accompanied by major expansion in energy use, particularly in support of industrialization and productive sectors.

The report also introduces a key insight: countries approaching roughly 10,000 kWh of electricity consumption per capita tend to reach a structural economic inflection point.

Building on these findings, the research offers clear, actionable insights for policymakers, private sector investors, and development practitioners.
